The Cube is the fourth of a series of single-unit multi-storied residential projects based on cubic proportions. This particular project evolved out of the culmination of experience of designing from the previous Cubes and incorporates very distinctive preferences of the Architect-cum-clients. The major concept was to design a very compact multi-level residence with interesting volumes which are linked together through a central circulation system. The desire to have lots of open spaces, light, air and greenery was also felt very strongly.
On the rectilinear site which has an area of 8.5 Katha (570m2) , the 25’x25’x25’ (8m x 8m x 8m) Cube with a foot print of 625 sft . (64m2) occupies a mere 12 percent, leaving 88 percent free for landscaping. This decision and its actual application has successfully convinced many of the positive effects of having more void than mass.
